Capoeira Arte Antiga is affiliated with ASCAB (American Society of Capoeira and Arts from Brazil), a Philadelphia-based nonprofit organization. Capoeira Arte Antiga works under the guidance and teaching of Mestre Doutor (Adenilson dos Santos). Capoeira Arte Antiga is a non-profit organization and was founded by Gabrielle Motta-Passajou (Professora Agua de Beber) in 2006.


Mestre Doutor has been teaching capoeira for more than 30 years. Originally from Santos Brazil, he moved to the United States in 1995 and has been teaching and promoting the art of Capoeira in Philadelphia for more than 15 years. Mestre Doutor has a strong reputation in the capoeira community accross the country. He is a dedicated master to his art and to his students. Mestre Doutor was recognized as "a person of extraordinary ability in his field" by the US government and granted US citizenship in 2004.

Mestra Agua de Beber (Gabrielle Motta-Passajou) started capoeira in Paris, France, in 1988 with Mestre Marcos China, then Instructor of late Mestre Peixihno, from the group Senzala do Rio. Agua de Beber moved to Boone, NC, in 1993, where she has been teaching capoeira to both adults and children for more than a decade. She started training under Mestre Doutor in 2005 and was awarded her Master belt in 2019. Agua de Beber teaches capoeira in the Boone community and at Appalachian State University.
